Referral Form and Eligibility Criteria

How do I qualify for Counselling Services?

Our Eligibility Criteria is:

  • We have an open door policy and accept referrals from outside Newham as there is little support that can be found elsewhere. Maximum of six (6) free sessions per individual on a referral basis or alternatively we can signpost you to counsellors on a private/fee basis. (We DO NOT accept self referrals) 
  • Clients need to be aged 18+ to 75 yrs.
  • Charges

    There is a one off contributory charge of £30.00* for Newham Residents and Out of Borough Residents being referred in accessing the support services. Payable by the individual in cash on the day when the initial Assessment takes place.
    (Charges effective from 1st July 2017 and subject to change)
    *Concessions : Senior Citizens (aged 65+) £10.00                
  • Waiting list in place for referrals – please call the Centre for further details on current waiting list
  • We do offer clients the opportunity to access private paid counselling of £40 per session and private clients can be seen within 1-2 weeks - please call the Centre for further details    

If you are a GP / Associated Medical Health organisation please read the guidelines below for how to make a referral to the Centre. 

Referral Process

  • Referrals form a Doctors Surgery must be completed by the GP or Practice Manager and forwarded to the Centre by post or given to individuals to bring along to the Centre. Where possible please use the Surgery's stamp on the Referral form

  • Referrals by Newham Carers (Newham Centre for Mental Health CMHT) referrals must be completed at all times by the Social Worker/Care Worker with a brief history of the client's mental health history to include any medication being taken

  • Referrals by Newham IAPT Psychological Services should be completed by the Therapist making such a referral and a brief history of the client's psychological history has to be attached also indicating whether client has accessed talking therapies and for how long 
  • The Centre has an open door policy and accepts referrals from organisations and associated health organisations outside of Newham and the same procedures apply

  • Referral forms can be picked up from the Centre for completion by the above named Medical Associations
